Yuriy Gmirya is a Lockheed Martin Senior Fellow of Rotorcraft Drive Systems at Sikorsky Aircraft. He has been involved in research & development of advanced drive systems at Sikorsky for the last 22 years. Before Fellow appointment, he was the CH-53K Drive System Team lead responsible for design and development of the heavy lift helicopter transmission. With nearly 20,000 HP, it is the most powerful single-rotor helicopter transmission in the US enabled to complete well over 170 knots in level flight and hover out of ground effect in aircraft configuration over 90,000 pounds.

Yuriy holds 31 US patents, one of which is for the CH-53K split torque main gearbox configuration. He published several papers. Yuriy is a member of the Vertical Flight Society, Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering, and is also on the Board of Directors of the Igor I. Sikorsky Historical Archives.

Yuriy is the recipient of several individual and team awards from the industry and Vertical Flight Society.
