Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Student Awarded ANS Local Section Scholarship

On August 31, 2019 Mechanical Engineering undergraduate, John Lathrop, was awarded the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Washington, DC Local Section Undergraduate Scholarship, recognizing him as a student of nuclear science and engineering with outstanding efforts and academic achievements in pursuit of a college education.

John is currently a junior at the University of Maryland with a double major of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, minoring in Nuclear Engineering. John spent the summer of 2019 at the Technical University of Munich, in Munich, Germany, where he worked on designing a radiation detector for a future ESA lunar mission. The scintillating radiation detector was designed to detect galactic cosmic rays.
